Kate Steenhauer
This exhibition is possible thanks to the support of CHC Helicopters Aberdeen. CHC provided the artist with unprecedented access to its operations and sponsored Kate's framing costs. Originally from the Netherlands, Kate's diverse career path has taken her from tennis, to engineering, including a PhD in Coastal Engineering from the University of Aberdeen, to art. She draws from direct observation and then uses oil paint and intaglio printmaking techniques to create artworks all with emphasis on line, texture and scale. Her latest work reflects the industrial life in the shipyards and heliport of Aberdeen. The artist's unique perspective attempts to humanise Scottish industry animating stories of a skilled labour force, absorbed in their work and at one with their environment. The artist has won several awards including a Royal Scottish Academy Award, and has been exhibited regularly at the RSA, the Mall Galleries, London, Visual Arts Scotland Annual Exhibition and Peacock Visual Arts amongst others.
